In recent years, the University of Vermont has seen a dramatic increase in its intellectual property and technology transfer activity. Of the 53 patents issued to the University of Vermont since 1979, 22 were issued in the past 3 years. In addition, over 20 licenses have been signed with diverse local, regional, national, and international companies.
Recent inventions licensed from UVM include a colon cancer screening diagnostic, a chemotherapeutic for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (now in Phase III clinical trials), a trunk inclination monitoring device to track back strain, and an antibody for treatment of severe sepsis (now in Phase I clinical trials).
The Technology Transfer Office understands that successful collaboration is based on the merging of cultural and intellectual objectives, as well as reasonable economic expectations. Timely response to licensing activity is a core competency that has been developed over time and is a constant focus of our improvement efforts.
Our unique networking situation enables us to combine technologies from a variety of sources. This allows the technologies to reach critical mass and increases the probability that each will achieve its full potential.
